Creating Sacred Space: Feng Shui & The Power of Mantra

Carolyn Redinger

What is a Mantra?  Pure sound vibrations intended to deliver the mind from illusion and material inclinations is known as “Mantra”.  The word was derived from two ancient Sanskrit words “manas” or “mind” and “tra” meaning “deliverance” or “free from”… literally meaning “to free from the mind”.  The chant of a Mantra is meant to be used in repetition, creating balance and increasing “Prana” or life force energy which can be transferred from one to another.  Some mantras are known to be used in the “breath” of meditation, for spiritual advancement and to improve the many facets of Feng Shui helping concentrate the energies for acceleration in enhancing our lives connecting positive intensions through ritual and ceremony with our physical environment.

In days of old the once lived “sage” or historical person was associated with the oral tradition of the formulas of devine sounds held in trust and secret known as mantra that predates written speech by centuries, earliest annotated records were on palm leaves.  The designated “sage” was known as the “seer” of the mantra.  Mantras were prescribed, kept and accumulated by the sage and in the family library sometimes crumbled, lost or thrown out to make way for the new.  Many of the mantras were hidden and preserved for numerous years and now many are presently available for use by the general public.  There are many mantras to clear your mind, dispel fear, break unhealthy habits, healing lifetime problems, positive reinforcement, enhance your creativity and intensify any meditation practice, to assist in removing hidden obstacles, attract abundance, love and draw in prana, the essential energy of the universe.

The act of redirecting energy in a positive manner is considered a Feng Shui correction, cure or adjustment and is intensified by performing a mantra along with the logical mundane (yang) cure.  Chinese transcendental (secret) cures are called “chu-shr” or “outside experience” which refers to a realm which is above and beyond our understanding.  Transcendental also refers to the yin, spiritual or invisible realm.

For example:  You decide that you want to sell your present home taking the right steps of signing with a realtor, placing the for sale sign, clearing the clutter and creating a sparkling clean presentable home giving you a 10 to 20% effect depending on your level of dedication.  You activate your wealth and helpful people areas making sure there is a clear pathway to the front door so as the Buyers may find your home with maybe a 50% more effort of selling.  Remember to create positive energy in the home.  Then envision you releasing your home to the new buyers that are ready and waiting for the opportunity, paying the perfect price in a quick, easy and smooth transaction.  Intensify the power of these adjustments by applying the Three Secrets of Reinforcement, the transcendental cure that will connect and attract your objectives which could raise the affect by 100 to 120%.

The Three Secrets of Reinforcement harnesses the power of intent through body (placement of object), mind (visualization and focus on intent) and speech (speaking the six true words) Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hum.  Easy but quite powerful because it contains the entire essence of the teaching:  Om represents the practice of generosity; Ma is keeping pure ethics; Ni helps achieve tolerance and patience; Pad is to help achieve perserverance, Me is perfect concentration; Hum is complete wisdom.  In short… generosity-pure ethics-tolerance and patience-perserverance-concentration-wisdom.  This mantra should be used with respect in accordance with the laws of nature in a positive light with unwavering clarity, willingness to release all attachments to the outcome and visualizing a positive outcome pronouncing as best as possible.  Avoid making adjustments while hungry, angry, lonely or tired.

Then there are those that insist and instruct that the spoken words of a mantra be spoken perfectly or it will not work appropriately:  As the story goes a devoted meditator and successful master teacher with no thoughts of learning, heard about a famous hermit that lived on a nearby island in the middle of the lake.  The master traveled by boat to call upon the hermit respectfully sharing tea made with herbs asking the old hermit of his meditation and spiritual practice.  The hermit responded that he had none except for a mantra in which he repeated all the time.  When the hermit spoke the mantra aloud, the master was horrified and let him know he wasted his whole life because it was pronounced incorrectly.  At the request of the hermit the mindful master graciously gave the correct pronunciation and the hermit went on his way to get started immediately.  As the master traveled back across the waters he pondered the sad fate of the hermit glancing back once more to surprisingly see the hermit standing respectfully on the water next to the boat.  The hermit excuses himself asking for forgiveness and to again repeat to him the correct mantra pronunciation.  The mindful master proclaims to the hermit “you obviously do not need the correct pronunciation” in shock of him standing on the water, but, the old hermit persisted in his polite request until the master gave the correct version.  The old hermit slowly and carefully pronounced the mantra over and over again as he walked across the surface of the water back to the island.

Mantra can help you find peace or feel more energized, deal with illness or encourage physical healing. It is not a cure all.  Bring your dreams closer to reality by creating positive mantras.  Speak or sing your mantra with meaning for upliftment of your thoughts, everyday living and to bring about change...  Ommmm!

May the flow of energy be with you creating sacred space.
