What is Imagination? Is it a gift or is it learned? And of course, is there anything in astrology
that defines imagination?
The first question is not as easy to answer as you may think. If you do a Google search for the word itself you will get at least 22,100,000 hits. Now that is what someone would consider unimaginable, but someone had the imagination to create the web.
The next question is it a gift (meaning genetically enabled) or learned? This is once again a difficult question to answer. Some persons who are not perceived as being particularly imaginative at birth might bring forth wonderful accomplishments later on in life. Then there are those who are born with it like Walt Disney (Born in Chicago, Illinois on 12/05/1901 at 12:35AM), who coined the word Imagineering.
Let’s look at Walt’s chart to see if there is something identifiable as imagination. One thing that almost jumps out at you is his Moon in Libra in his 1st house. Since Libra is ruled by Venus, it is a powerful indicator of being involved in the creative arts at some level. In his 1st house, art became his method to connect with people. Of course he was in a generation that had Neptune in Cancer (Neptune stays in one sign about 14 years and it was at the beginning of the entry point for Walt). This means the illusion of a good story in a fantasy setting targeted for the home-based audience was a natural place for him to focus his talents. The final point for Walt that I am going to make is that his Cancerian Neptune appears in his 10th house, the house of vocation. He manifested his gifts of art and illusion using the driving force of his imagination. The highlights in Walt’s chart may not be the final astrological note for imagination determination, but it sets a high bar.
Let’s see what the greatest imagineer of all time looks like from his chart. Of course I am talking about Leonardo Da Vinci (born on April 22, 1452 at 09:48pm in Florence, Italy). The other sign that is ruled by Venus is Taurus. Leonardo’s Sun and Venus are in Taurus. His strong sense of beauty was unequalled. Mars and Moon in Aquarius put him in the future of his time. His imagination and visions were unparalleled. He also has a zero degree planet, which is Neptune, in Libra (another cardinal sign)
What about late bloomers in the imagination area. Why does someone who has been relatively unimaginative all of their life, suddenly turn on the switch and out flows the creative juices of genius. Bill Gates (Born October 28, 1955 @ 9:10 PM in Seattle, WA) just may be such a man. He has five fixed planets and four fire planets. He has two stelliums of three planets each. He has three planets in Libra (Mars, Mercury, Pluto) and three in Scorpio (Sun, Venus, & Saturn). It appears that the beautiful Venus ruled Libra is heavy in his chart. These six planets are very close and occupy a small arc of approximate 40 degrees. This tells me his Libra and Scorpio energies are in overdrive. He is creative in imaginative ways, but his methods may not notably be fair. I would imagine he probably wrestles a lot with his consciousness and could be the reason he is now such a large philanthropist.
My final belief is we all have imagination; it is just a matter of where we use it.
